Random Happening of the Day

I walked through Stratford Mall today and saw Bilis Manger from Torchwood!

And yes, this is the most exciting thing to happen to me for quite a while, hence the lack of updates. I should remedy that soon as today I took my last written exam EVER! Unless I get a job which requires me to sit exams, but I'm trying not to think about that.

Now I am going to order Indian food and drink wine.

Inevitably, when I have something I really should be doing (revision again) I start messing around on the internet.

Just discovered that Felicity Kendal is going to be in DW and Richard Briers is going to be in Torchwood!

Maybe they'll make a new show called The Geek Life and have Tom and Barbara quiting the rat race to grow good sci-fi plots in their back garden. Or maybe not.

New Words

An email my Mum had the other day. Had to share.

A list of new words made by taking a word from the dictionary and adding, subtracting or altering one letter, complete with new definition.

1. Intaxication: Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realise it was your money to start with.

2. Reintarnation: Coming back to life as a hillbilly.

3. Bozone (n.): The substance surrounding stupid people, that stops bright ideas from penetrating. The Bozone layer, unfortunately, shows little sign of breaking down in the near future.

4. Cashtration (n.): The act of buying a house, which renders the subject financially impotent for an indefinate period of time.

5. Giraffiti: Vandalism spray-painted very, very high.

6. Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who doesn't get it.

7. Inoculatte: To take coffee intravenously when you are running late.

8. Hipatitis: Terminal coolness.

9. Osteopornosis: A degenerate disease.

10. Karmageddon: It's like, when everybody is sending off all these really bad vibes, right? And then, like, the Earth explodes and it's like, a serious bummer.

11. Decafalon (n.) The grueling event of getting through the day consuming only things that are good for you.

12. Glibido: All talk and no action.

13.Dopeler Effect: The tendancy of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly.

14. Arachnoleptic Fit (n.): The frantic dance performed just after you've accidentally walked through a spider web.

15. Beelzebug (n.): Satan in the form of a mosquito, which gets into your bedroom at three in the morning and cannot be cast out.

16. Caterpallor (n.): The colour you turn after finding half a worm in the fruit you're eating.

17. Ignoranus: A person who's both stupid and an arsehole.

Ludicrus!

Next weekend (7th & 8th July) is Ludicrus. Finally East Anglia has got it's own gaming convention organised! Well, I say organised, I really mean thrown together ;)

I'll be there the whole weekend, although I'm not quite sure what I'll be doing the whole time. If I can get hold of and paint enough models, I'll be in the Warmachine league on Saturday. And again, subject to getting something painted, I'll be entering something in the painting competition on Sunday.

Any one else going?

You can get tickets at Suffolk Sci-Fi.

Utopia

I was going to do this much earlier today, but many family-based distractions found me first.

Spoilers for last Saturday's episode of Doctor Who

I'd been looking forward to this ep ever since I saw the teaser on Wossy a little while ago, and I was not disappointed. Ok, so the plot itself could have been a little better, but it was more than made up for by the awesomeness of the return of Jack (and his flirting) and by a certain character I wasn't expecting to turn up till next week.

I already knew John Simm would be playing the Master because I was weak and could not resist being spoiled for this. And I'd heard the Sun had reported Derek Jacobi would be regenerating into Simm, but because it was the Sun I though they were lying and completely ignored every clue that the Professor was the Master. When they showed the watch, Martha was convinced it was the same watch we'd seen before, so I thought this must be a future incarnation of our Doctor, deciding to live out his last regeneration as a human. I was pretty glad for the misdirection caused by the Sun cause it made the episode a bit more exciting.

But YANA = You Are Not Alone? Cheesiest. Moment. Evah.

I thought it was really interesting that the Master made a better human than the Doctor. He was helping the human race to survive, and being a bit of a genius. The Doctor on the other hand was teaching boys to shoot at people with nothing but spears, and encouraging these boys to beat each other up, and being a bit rubbish. This makes me think that the Master is not inherently evil, but the things that happened to him before we ever met him made him that way, then all that being defeated by the Doctor just made him more bitter.

And finally, FINALLY! A villain has paid attention to The Evil Overlord List:

"Why don't we stop and have a nice little chat, while I tell you all my plans and you figure out a way to stop me. I don't think."

In short, I cannot wait for next week :D

I went into the T-mobile shop in Ipswich the other day, trying to see if I could get a cheap contract (Tmob are the only provider to actually provide a signal in the new house).

Denied.

The cheapest they had was £20 a month, and that's too much for me at the mo. They won't be changing their offers until the end of next month either, so I'm going to have to wait till then and see if they've got anything cheaper.

In the meantime, I am still pretty much unreachable by mobile while I'm at home.
Back in the Countryside

I am now back in Suffolk for the summer. Haven't finished unpacking yet, but nevermind boring things like that.

Next task, find a job. My back-up summer jobs have both fallen through, so the hunt is on so Rosie can afford to have a social life over the summer. I have an interview/appointment thing with a temping agency tomorrow morning, so hopefully that will find me something fairly quickly. After all, the quicker I start working, the quicker I get paid.

In other news, I've just finished watching the first season of Battlestar Galactica and I'm totally hooked! All the tension over who may or may not be a Cylon is well played, and a lot of the storylines are relevant to what's going on in the world at the moment. Yup, totally hooked :)

Bomb scare!

So this morning I get up to go to my morning exam, to find when I get downstairs that there's a bomb scare in Bethnal Green, where my exam is. Funfunfun.

It wasn't as bad as I first expected. Turned out there'd been an unexploded WWII bomb discovered in a building site off Roman Road, so nothing terroristy, which is good. The army were there with a barricade and they sorted it out. About the time we got to the exam hall, a large armoured vehicle with a police escort came past. We assumed this was the bomb.

That was the interesting part of the morning. The exam sucked rather cause the questions were mostly on stuff I hadn't revised since they hadn't been covered in the past papers. Arse.

STG tomorrow, and I know nothing for it. Space-time makes my head hurt, but that could just be my horrible head cold.

Camptastic!

Eurovision was camptastic as always.
Serbia probably deserved to win, however I was far more amused by the runners up, the Ukraine, and their silver-clad transvestite. I felt they showed the spirit of Eurovision much better.

<lj-embed id="2" />

We didn't give Ireland any points, but they gave us some, and we beat them. If we took this seriously, we'd so be getting bombed.
We still came second from last. Tradition stands, we are crap at Eurovision.

ETA: The French were pretty camptastic also, with the pinkness and the wings and the fake cat stuck to a man's shoulder.

Heroes!

That was rather good, wasn't it?

Five years in the future! Finding out what might have/did happen/ed to the characters after the exploding man was really interesting. No explanation as to how Peter survived the explosion, although maybe that's where he got the scar. I know he's got the regeneration powers an' all, but surviving when you explode yourself? That's hardcore.

I loved that Bennet was fighting to keep the special people safe from the government. It's good to know that he's learnt his lesson from what they tried to do to Claire before.

Sylar!Nathan confused me somewhat. Was he actually Sylar through the whole episode, or for only part? Meh. Still don't like Nathan, but then I'm not sure we're supposed to.

Yay for Mohinder finding some balls and helping our!Hiro!

Not so much of a nail-biting cliffhanger this week, which is nice. Although it did leave me wondering if Hiro and Ando are about to walk in, find Issac's body, and get arrested like Hiro did before.

In other news, London is too fucking hot! Not good weather for revision. On the plus side, the ice cream van came back today. Looks like I'll be eating ice cream every day this month :)

Also, I finally have a Heroes icon.

Life on Mars

Yes, I think I liked that.

Slightly confusing in places, until the end that is, but I suspect that may have been the point. I'll have to watch it again sometime, preferably the whole series in one go in order to get a bit more sense out of it.

On the down side, no more life in 1973. I'm going to miss the gratuitous punch-ups.

Yay!

My car is fixed!

Dad came down to London today to help me, cos I'd given up hope of fixing the damn thing myself.

The breakdown man said the ignition coil had gone, so I'd got a replacement for it, eventually managed to find the right tools, and fitted it.

Car wouldn't start.

Called out the breakdown man again, he said the new coil was faulty. Took it back to the shop, got a new one, fitted the new one.

Car still wouldn't start.

Dad looks at it, does much poking around and unscrewing various bits around the distributor and testing them with the magical multimeter. Eventually, by a process of elimination he decides it must be the Hall-effect transistor that's gone, so we take that off, take it to the shop down the road, where amazingly they actually have one in stock. We fit the part, and the car starts!

I always knew the Hall effect would be my downfall one day.

And I have got something out of this experience. I can now fit an ignition coil in under five minutes.

As a result of a bizzare conversation with my housemates, that started with me describing ed209 from the first Robocop film and doing actions to accompany it (and just happening to be wearing a skirt at the time) I present this:

This is (mostly) Phil's fault.

Well I've had an interesting day.

Drove back to London this afternoon, intending to go to the supermarket once back to stock up on much needed food. No problems on the way back, offload all my stuff. No one else has got back to my house, so I decide to take the neighbours with me since they need food too. We get halfway there, sitting at the traffic lights and the car just stops.

This is where we were when it happened:

On the wrong side of a busy road with two lanes. At the traffic lights. We had to push the car through the traffic and off that side road to the left. Then onto another side road. Then off another just to get the damn thing out of the way. I'm so glad I have a small car.

We then had to wait half an hour for the breakdown man to turn up, which is quite a short time really. He had a poke under the bonnet and decided the coil's gone. Not quite sure what the coil does, but it had live electrics going in, and no spark coming out, which is bad. Since it's a Sunday, nowhere was open so he couldn't go and get a new one and fit it. I would have had to pay for the part anyway, but now I have to pay for the labour as well.

Fucking Sundays. Fucking cars. Fuckety-fuck-fuck fuck.

Ah yes, and instead of typing this, I really should be writing up my lab report that I've had all week to do, started yesterday, and is due in tomorrow. Bollocks.
